Near the Swedish massage, the Californian massage is a relaxing discipline which consists of a succession of long fluid and harmonious movements all over the body, in order to open and stimulate consciousness, in order to live the moment in a deep relaxation of the body and the mind. This massage is one of the most appreciated.

Created in the early 1970s in California around working groups in psychotherapy, this massage was born from a reassuring need for participants whose emotional burden was very strong. It was then Margaret Elke, a follower of the Swedish massage, which codified, structured and taught this new type of massage.

California massage is a sensitive and relational work. Based mainly on touch techniques, it constitutes an exercise on the sensitivity and reappropriation of its body.

Course of a session

A complete Californian massage session lasts about 45 minutes. It is practiced on a massage table by mild movements, efflections and pressures. The practitioner uses perfumed oils with relaxing and soothing virtues as well as scented candles and music for a soft, zen and warm atmosphere that stimulates the senses (hearing, odorate, touch, view). The complete Californian massage is practiced on the whole body, head to the feet, starting with the back and then by the torso.

It's a relaxation massage above all. This treatment combines both gentle gestures and the efflections, designed to wrap and relax the person, and the more firm and stimulating gestures, intended to soothe more important and deeper tensions (the Californian massage is not for therapeutic purpose and can not replace a physiotherapist practitioner).

The complete massage should not be administered on diabetes patients or subjects with heart problems. Similarly for patients with arterial hypertension. People with recent surgery should also not be massaged in full.

The Hatha Yoga is the most practiced yoga in the West. It allows a mastery smoothly of the body and the senses and works especially the postures to have a better fitness.
